“And this is the promise that He has promised us — eternal life.” 1 John 2:25, NKJV
How many of us have gone cynical with all that we have heard, seen, and reported as the truth these many days, months, and years?
Whom do you believe anymore? What do you trust that they tell us is trustworthy? You think one guy is honest and full of good intentions and then you find out months or even years later that they were no different from any of the others.
No wonder we have so much doubt, unbelief, and skepticism abounding. There is so much “untruth” around that we don’t even trust our medical doctors, the elementary through college teachers, let alone the used car salesmen and yes, even religious leaders who have “reached the top”.
But you and I are encouraged to still believe. We are called to continue to walk in faith, walk in love, striving to keep our eyes on the One Above.
“Keep your eyes on Jesus, who both began and finished this race we're in. Study how he did it. Because he never lost sight of where he was headed — that exhilarating finish in and with God — he could put up with anything along the way: cross, shame, whatever. And now he's there, in the place of honor, right alongside God. When you find yourselves flagging in your faith, go over that story again, item by item, that long litany of hostility he plowed through. That will shoot adrenaline into your souls!” Hebrews 12:2-3, THE MESSAGE
We are called by the Lord Himself to not doubt Him, for He cannot lie to us, cheat us, steal from us. It is impossible for the One Who is all-loving, all-trustworthy, never changing, to lead us astray. That evil is just not found in Him.
In the early days after the Lord Jesus, having come as the Messiah, Yeshua HaMashiach, He had given instructions to the disciples to wait for the Holy Spirit to come and fill them with power. And when He had come, Ruach HaKodesh (Hebrew) the third person of the Holy Trinity, they no longer cowered in the Upper Room in fear, doubt, unbelief, uncertainty.
What the Lord had promised to them that He would do, He did. What He had committed to them in complete and full honesty to enable them to do, He kept that promise.
What He said He would do, our Lord Yeshua did it. And He will certainly do it again.
He is God. He CANNOT do harm. It is just not in His character to do so. He only does that which He promised to fully fulfill what He has said He would do.
And we can trust Him. We can follow Him. We can be utterly certain that He will not lead us astray, take us down the wrong road with surprises at the end, nor tell us one thing and then do another.
There are so many examples of how the Lord proved Himself repeatedly, written in the Bible, that what He said He would do, He did.
“For when God made a promise to Abraham, because He could swear by no one greater, He swore by Himself, saying, "Surely blessing I will bless you, and multiplying I will multiply you." And so, after he had patiently endured, he obtained the promise.” Hebrews 6:13-16, NKJV
I have shared the following testimony in some of my other messages, but it again verifies of His faithfulness to keep that which He has promised, to you and to me.
Way back when I was 10 years of age (now that is going back a long time, but not unlike the years Abraham and Moses waited for a promise) the Lord gave me a desire to go to Africa, to be a missionary doctor, to touch the lives of the people there. While serving 14 years with Mahesh and Bonnie Chavda, with Mahesh going to Zaire (now the Democratic Republic of the Congo in western Africa) year after year, I was certain that in those middle-age years of mine I would be able to go, at least one time, with him. That this would be the way the Lord would fulfill His promise to me.
In 1993 that time for me to also go with Mahesh was to come. But it didn’t. Civil war broke out in that nation and he never was able to go back.
Again around 2002 Laurie and I were invited to go on a worship team ministry trip to Zimbabwe in southern Africa. The trip was canceled. Another major disappointment.
In 2010 our hearts were turned more fully to Israel (having been given that vision for His people first in 1987 after hearing Derek Prince teach on “Our Debt To Israel”) and we founded Love For His People ministry. Our focus narrowed to His promised land and His Jewish chosen family, and I left the “African promise” on the back burner. If it came, it came. If not, I was moving on.
In 2019, after my good friend David Peterman came back from Israel and told me about a Messianic Ethiopian Rabbi named Kokeb Gedamu that he had met on the street in Jerusalem, the Lord re-fired that desire, that tiny spark that had all but gone out over the past 58 years, and my hope was renewed. Maybe this was the one that would be a vessel to help fulfill the promise.
Another story for later, but to not keep you on the edge of your seat, which I know this is doing, I am going with my friend Kokeb to Ethiopia in October 2022.
Our God keeps His promises. And He always knows when, where, and how is the best time.
Through our connections with Israel and His people, He has brought about the desire He had instilled in me decades ago.
He will do the same for you. What He has promised, He will fulfill. What He has said He would do in your life, He will yet do.
Keep believing. Keep doing that which you know to do. And watch your Lord and mine prove once again, one by precious one, that He is the God Who keeps His promises.
